Though houseboat rides are not generally available in the peak monsoon season, this is a great time to stay in a lakeside and lake facing cottage for experiencing the great natural beauty of the backwaters of Kerala and the beauty of the Sky during the monsoon. But Shikara boat, a smaller version of Houseboats, which may be available for cruising, if the lake is calm and quiet. This is also the great time to go bird watching, as many migratory birds visit Kumarakom during the monsoon.
